Important information from your teachers

Please go over your child’s papers that are sent home each week. You will be well informed of your child’s progress. Use these papers to review the skills being taught at school.
Please work with your child on telling time. Since digital clocks are everywhere now days, children really need practice reading an analog clock. If you stop and think about it, some of you may not even have an analog clock (clock with an hour and minute hand) in your home. Second graders also need to know how to use the terms; “quarter to”, “quarter past”, and “half past” the hour.
Parents: To help prepare your child for third grade we are really stressing that your child knows their basic math addition and subtraction facts by recall. Your child should be able to recall these facts without relying on their fingers. This helps your child when they are doing harder math in the upper grades. Please begin practicing with your child each night by using flash cards which can be purchased rather inexpensively at Wal Mart or you may even make your own.

Please sign the agenda every night after checking that your child completed their homework
Please spend time each week practicing basic addition and subtraction facts. Second grade standards require mastery of these facts. We practice daily at school. You can use flash cards a few minutes each night!
